Homemade Pencil Sharpener for Pastel Pencils (or any pencils)
Some of you who use pastel pencils in your art may be interested in the way I sharpen my pencils. As you probably know they typically blunt all sharpeners very quickly and can break very easily. The only bought sharpener which I found to work was the swordfish manual crank type but this needed a constant supply of expensive replacement helical blades which blunted very quickly. The solution I came up with was a home made device shown in the pics below. It was an old 12v cycle motor with a drill sander disk attached to the shaft and housed in a case made from bits of spare wood in my garage. It also has a small fan and carvac filter bag to catch the dust produced. Although its bigger than your typical sharpener (understatement ) it works extremely well with very few breakages even with the soft carbothello pencils. The video shows me using it.
